Kesawan Shrimp Soto (Soto Udang Kesawan)

Many people say that Medan City offers many pleasurable things, particularly its culinary tourism. This is undeniably true. Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra, is one of food paradises which serves many kinds of mind-blowing food. When I visited Medan last year, I fell in love with "Kesawan Shrimp Soto". Its taste is somewhat similar to Coconut Milk Soup Jakarta , even the ingredients and the presentation look alike. The only difference is the colour of Kesawan Shrimp Soto which is white while Soto Jakarta is a bit yellow-green.

Many restaurants in Medan have this dish as their special menu so it is not too difficult to find itOne of the restaurants I knew is Kesawan Soto Restaurant. As the name implies, it is located in Kesawan which is renowned for its Shrimp Soto. My first visit to this restaurant was last year when I desired to have lunch. The look of Soto was quite appetizing and tantalizing. The taste? It blew my mind away! I ate the dish enthusiastically until I there was no leftover. So scrumptious!
I knew I had chosen the right place to taste a little piece of heavenly food. Situated in a strategic place in front of ancient building, this restaurant is always crowdy. Occupies the front part of an ancient building, visitors who came and went. The seller was deftly poured the sauce into a bowl that has been filled with meat to order visitors. Soon a bowl of soup has been on a marble table. Yes.. eating place is quite antique, marble dining table is a table, some round and some square. Floor office is also still using old-fashioned floor which of course is now no longer in production.

  • 750 g medium-size shrimp

  • 2 leeks, finely sliced
  • 300 g bean sprouts, pour boiling hot water, drained

  • Condiments, puree:
  • 2 tsp coriander, toasted
  • 1 tsp pepper grain, toasted
  • 2 cm turmeric
  • 2 cm ginger
  • 1 cm key meeting
  • 6 red onions
  • Salt to taste

  • garlic fries

How to make:

  1. Peel shrimp, leaving the tail, cut back.
  2. Roasted shrimp shell and head to dry and discolored. Pour water and boil for 10 minutes. Lift and strain.
